Backsberg is proud to announce that, once again, we will be the exclusive source of fine wines at the 2019 Loerie Awards. This annual South African event is one that we’re always pleased to be a part of due to the tribute it plays to our nation’s spectacular range of creative minds. Celebrating those who excel in brand communication is something that we’re delighted to be a part of!
The partnership between the Loerie Awards and Backsberg is unique due to the mutual honouring of tradition. Although Backsberg does have a few years on the award ceremony – having been established in 1916 – the Loeries has been praising creative industry players for over 40 years now.
Bianca-Joy Lenhardt, Backsberg Estate Cellars’ Marketing Manager, comments on the partnership: “The Loeries focuses on creative inspiration. The not-for-profit association makes one feel something – it urges us to question the status quo, enabling innovation. At Backsberg, we follow a very similar vein of thought. Certified carbon neutral in 2006, Backsberg was South Africa’s first estate to obtain this accreditation. Over the years we have continued to reassess the way we do things, both in terms of sustainability and social responsibility.” With this in mind, it’s only natural that the partnership was a perfect fit for both the Loerie Awards and Backsberg.
Furthermore, at Backsberg, we are constantly aiming to provide our customers with a level of excellence that can be mirrored in those who are nominated for their awards. Just as we showcase the spectacular array of South African vines, these awards pay tribute to those with extreme creative distinction in the field of media and advertising.
Bianca continues: “Packaging and branding are crucial to the success of a wine brand. However, we often forget the deeper message. Being associated with partners like these has allowed us to develop our own creative juices; for instance, with the re-launch of our new Tread Lightly range. Previously packaged in PET, an unconventional bottling technique in itself, this range embodies Backsberg’s sustainable approach. Labelled with Tree Free Paper, a 95% sugarcane and 5% hemp and linen alternative, and packaged in lightweight glass bottles weighing in at just 455g, these wines are made with love and respect for the land. The Loeries inspires us to test the wine space and to challenge the norm.”
The Loeries Creative Week takes place over several days from the 22nd to the 25th of August 2019 at the Durban ICC.
