The 2017 Standard Bank Joy of Jazz marks the 20th anniversary of one of South Africa’s oldest and most reputable jazz events. Jazz lovers from across the country are expected to flock en masse to Johannesburg this September for three days of unrivalled musical talent. As in previous years, Backsberg Estate Cellars has once again been appointed as the official wine supplier for the event.
This year’s event will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 28 to 30 September 2017. Patrons can expect to witness a star-studded line-up with more than 30 performances taking place across four stages within the allocated time frame.
International bigwigs include six-time Grammy Award nominee Nnenna Freelon and three-time Grammy Award winner Branford Marsalis. In terms of local flavour, there’ll be performances by Abdullah Ibrahim, Hugh Masekela, Jonas Gwangwa, Caiphus Semenya and Selaelo Selota to name but a few.
Backsberg Wines will be making a splash throughout the festival, being present at both the public bars and corporate hospitality suites. Simon Back, CEO of Backsberg Estate Cellars notes: “Backsberg has had a long association with the arts and we are thrilled to be partnering up with the Joy of Jazz after several years of amicable partnership. He continues by stating that “this is the perfect opportunity to showcase our wines to a diverse and cosmopolitan audience and we couldn’t be more pleased.”
With nineteen years of success, it is certain that the twentieth Joy of Jazz will truly be spectacular. For the full programme and further details, see: https://www.joyofjazz.co.za/.
