The 18th of December was a big one for Backsberg. It was big and busy. Big because we were using part of the farm for a concert venue for the first time, and busy because the concert was for 2500 people and there was a wedding, a full restaurant and a busy tasting room going [...]
Last month the Backsberg marketing Dream Team (Simon Back, bearded Marketing Manager, Moses impersonator, and to-do list killer; Jenny Back, guerilla gardener, globe-trotter, and The Face of Backsberg; and Harry Haddon, new recruit, wine-hottie, and wine-drinker extraordinaire) headed off for a day-trip to Oudtshoorn for a reconnaissance mission. Backsberg is the official wine supplier to [...]
Last week Backsberg hosted another one of our Picnic Concerts in association with kykNET. This week was Hot Water one of South Africa’s most creative up and coming groups. Their easy going relaxed afro-folk-kwasa-kwasa-kwela-pop-rock-blues-indie vibe was appreciated by all. I guess this was the perfect band to have play on Reconciliation Day as their uniquely [...]
This month sees the last of our December Picnic concerts at Backsberg with Hot Water performing on the 16th, Reconciliation Day. There can’t be many better ways to spend a late Sunday afternoon than chilling on the grass with a scrumptious picnic and a bottle of wine with some of South Africa’s top musical talent [...]
We all spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about today and tomorrow. Well, what a wonderful Saturday morning I recently had – a morning reminiscing about the past with Shirley Martin and my wife. Shirley is the daughter of the late John Martin who was my father’s right and left hand. He cared for [...]
On the 18th of December there is going to be some noise at Backsberg with the Sonic Summer Festival Tour pulling in for a rocking party. Headlining the event will be Zef rap-ravers Die Antwoord, teen heart-throbs Locnville, online musician Jax Panik, and jazz/dance geniuses Goldfish.
Earlier this month Backsberg took part in the 3rd Franschhoek ‘Magic of Bubbles’ Cap Classique and Champagne Festival. The theme this year was black and white and the ladies were dressed to the nines. And I think I now understand what that phrase means, nine inch heels, accompanied by nine inch long skirts. I didn’t [...]
Sometime in 17th Century France the big and bold Mr. Cabernet Franc met Ms. Sauvignon Blanc, and couldn’t resist her racy charm and sexy freshness. The result? One of the world’s best known grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon. Despite this only being proved relatively recently in a laboratory, it didn’t come as a huge surprise as [...]
Backsberg Estate Cellars, in association with kykNET, is thrilled to announce the return of its picnic concert series. The series, which runs from 28 November 2010 to 13 February 2011, features a superb musical line-up of South Africa’s best-loved artists – including Laudo (aKing), Karen Zoid, Koos Kombuis and Wrestlerish.
This Babylons Toren selection Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend came from low yielding, high density vineyards producing grapes with exceptional flavours of cassis, raspberry and tobacco.
