02 Feb Hop on the Red Bus to Backsberg
We are thrilled to announce that the world’s leading tour bus operator, City Sightseeing, will be stopping at Backsberg from 22 January 2018, as part of their Wine Country Day Tour. We look forward to hosting the tourists of the red bus on our farm and better acquainting them with not only our collection of wines, but with our rich heritage too.
Backsberg is the second destination on the full day tour. On our farm, guests will be treated to a formal tasting of five Backsberg wines, which will be pre-selected by our knowledgeable staff and chosen in accordance with the season. The tasting takes place in the Historic Vat Cellar, which dates back to the early 1920s. This space houses large French oak barrels ranging in capacity from 5000 to 9000 litres. The wood was imported from France and the barrels assembled in situ on the farm. Guests get a sense of the past by taking in the beautiful oak scent that the barrels effuse. We’re excited to share this experience with our City Sightseeing guests.
A major reason we have teamed up with City Sightseeing is due to our shared ethics in sustainability. Both Backsberg and City Sighting are carbon neutral, with Backsberg being the first wine farm in South Africa to achieve this status in 2006 (one of only three wineries globally at the time), and City Sighting being the first bus service to obtain this position. We look forward to making a difference together.
Other stops along the Wine Country Day Tour include a photo opportunity at Bloubergstrand, lunch in Franschhoek village and a tour through Stellenbosch. The tour begins and ends at the V&A Waterfront, where passengers are picked up and later dropped off outside the Two Oceans Aquarium.
Whether you’re a Cape Town resident or visitor to our beautiful city, the City Sightseeing Wine Country Day Tour is a must! For booking enquiries, please visit www.citysightseeing.co.za or call +27 861 733 287.
