We’re ‘ProWein’, are you?
For the very first time Backsberg will be heading to the world’s largest and most influential
international wine and spirits trade fair, ProWein. Every year the global wine world gets together for three days in Dusseldorf, Germany, to sell and promote their wares. This year the fair will be held between the 19th and 21st of March. 6,257 exhibitors, 59 exhibiting countries, 55,729 trade visitors, and 123 visitor countries are expected to attend. Countless tastings, specialised seminars, lectures and panel discussions, and a few unique surprises, are simply par for the course.
Backsberg will be exhibiting as part of the Wines of South Africa (WOSA) pavilion; and in order to celebrate this momentous occasion, we have a commissioned a unique art piece specifically for the event. A beaded magnum of Klein Babylonstoren 2012 has been created by Artwell Munenura from Streetwires in Cape Town’s Bo-Kaap. Streetwires is a Fair Trade organisation which focuses on the empowerment of others. The company permanently employs 60 local artists who work to design, create and market exceptionally beautiful handcrafted bead and wire designs. Artwell has been employed by Streetwires for over 15 years. Originally from Zimbabwe, he initially struggled to find a job in South Africa, now his work will be on display for the world to see at ProWein 2017.
