Backsberg Launches its 2015 Winter Menu

Over its four generations, Backsberg has cultivated a belief of wholesome and sustainable farming, never wavering on high quality and consistency. This carries from the vineyard and cellar into our restaurant. All ingredients are fresh, preparation uncomplicated and the quality superb. From 1 June 2015, the restaurant offers its heartwarming winter menu, with attention paid to local and in season produce. The dishes are individually designed to complement our range of Backsberg Wines, and when enjoyed in the comfortable surrounds in front of a crackling fire, the chill of winter will feel at bay.

_MG_0899_MG_0903Our restaurant is set in a beautiful country garden where we serve lunch outdoors in sunny weather or indoors beside a blazing fire in the colder months. Choose from the varied à la carte menu, served from Monday to Saturday. It features traditional South African home-style meals, all made with fresh ingredients from our tried-and-trusted recipes. Our wine list offers all the Backsberg favourites, as well as some special wines only available at the farm. With a jungle gym in the garden and space to play, it’s a fun day out for the whole family.

After a light salad or warm soup to start, move onto something rich and meaty, like the Braised Lamb Shank, served with dauphinoise potatoes, oven roasted root vegetables and Pinotage jus. Alternatively, try the Cape Malay Beef Bobotie; a fragrant traditional mince curry dish served with rice, garden vegetables, sambals and a poppadum. The Quartet of Desserts will finish your meal in sweet style, featuring tasting portions of brandy pudding, cream tartlet, cheese cake and ice cream. Pair it with a Backsberg brandy or fortified wine for extra kick and flavour.

On Sundays we also have a 3-course set-menu available (with options for children too). Due to its popularity, booking for this is essential.
