Paarl Rotary Backsberg MTB Challenge
MTB racing in the Winelands
The Paarl Rotary Backsberg MTB Challenge will take place on the 6th of September this year at Backsberg Wine Estate. After the success of last year’s event, this popular ride will offer a route geared for every fitness level ranging from a 5km course, to a 15km route for the more experienced rider; and for serious, competitive mountain bikers; a 30km and a 45km race.
The 45km, 30km and 15 km routes will expose you to some of the best scenery and views in the area and surrounds. The roads are mostly jeep-track with some single-track and open roads in between. Expect some solid climbs, to meandering S-bend inclines to bumpy tracks and fast forest downhill paths. The 45 km race includes a long, continuous, steep climb, only for very fit and experienced riders, while the 30 km race is also quite a strenuous ride. The route starts on Backsberg Estate Cellars and crosses a number of neighbouring farms.
The routes include virgin single-track and private land opened up just for the event. Please carry antihistamine with you if you are allergic to bee stings as there are beehives on the course. The kid’s 5km ride is a fun meander around the wine estate.
